NYC Outward Bound Schools is a not-for-profit educational organization dedicated to bringing Outward Bound’s approach to teaching and learning to the young people of New York City and their public schools. NYC Outward Bound Schools has established a network of elementary, middle and high schools – located in all 5 boroughs of the City - that it is responsible for running in partnership with the NYC Department of Education. These schools are based upon Expeditionary Learning, a nationally recognized model for school transformation and creation, which features real world learning, engaging instruction, rigorous curricula, and character development. In addition to its work with the schools in its network, NYC Outward Bound Schools delivers customized Outward Bound programs organized around the themes of teambuilding, leadership and character development to other NYC-based schools and youth organizations.
NYC Outward Bound Schools employs 27 regular employees (full- and part-time) and 25 per-diem employees. Its headquarters building is in Long Island City (Queens, NY) and includes offices, conference space, indoor and outdoor climbing walls, a staff apartment, and tenant offices. |
