THE POSITION

Contra Costa County’s Animal Services Department is looking to add an Animal Services Admissions and Adoption Coordinator to our dedicated team. We are committed to protecting the health, safety and well-being of all people and animals in our community. We prioritize lifesaving as our guiding principal. We will shelter homeless, abandoned and lost animals, work to keep and place animals in safe, caring homes, and provide education and services to enhance the lives of people, their animal companions, and to strengthen the human-animal bond.

This position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the adoption process, as well as the intake of surrendered animals, in the Animal Services Department. TENTATIVE EXAM DATES
Tentative Oral Exam: May 4, 2017
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in psychology, sociology, volunteer administration, animal welfare or veterinary administration, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field.

Experience: Two (2) years full-time or its equivalent experience in animal sheltering, one (1) year of which must have included training, teaching or providing animal services education in a public animal control and services setting.

Substitution for Education: Additional qualifying experience or experience of any of the types listed below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis up to maximum of two (2) years. One (1) additional year of experience may also be substituted for the required academic major, including:
• Experience working in a public animal control and services setting
• Experience working with animals in a humane, zoological, shelter, conservancy, veterinary or other non-laboratory setting
• Experience training animals in a non-laboratory setting
• Training or teaching experience in a public or private organization
• Experience as a volunteer in a City or County Animal Services agency

SELECTION PROCESS

2. Application Evaluation: Depending on the number of applications received, an Application Evaluation Board may be convened to evaluate and select the best-qualified candidates for invitation to the next phase of the examination.

3. Oral Interview: Conducted by a Qualifications Appraisal Board who will evaluate candidates in job-related areas. (Weighted 100%)

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices. As part of the application process, an applicant may be required to complete a Conviction History form. The Conviction History form should only be submitted when requested.
