THE POSITION

Animal Services Clerks perform a variety of clerical duties in order to assist customers with adoptions, surrenders, and other animal related services. Ideal candidates should have a strong understanding of general office clerical practices, including use of basic computer programs, operation of standard office equipment, and excellent customer service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

License: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator’s license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the applicant process.

Experience: Six (6) months of full-time (or the equivalent of full-time) clerical or customer service experience in one of the following areas:
• A City or County animal shelter, Humane Society or other agencies or businesses providing animal care and control which must have included direct public contact while providing services that include but are not limited to animal adoption, licensing, surrender services; OR
• A veterinary hospital, boarding kennel or veterinary practice which must have included direct public contact providing information and consultation regarding entities’ rules, regulations and operational procedures.
Other Requirements: The ability to type at a speed of not less than 40 words per minute from clear manuscript or printed or typewritten copy.
Please note: applicants must submit, with their application package, an approved typing certificate obtained in the past six months validating, in a five minute timed typing test, the ability to type at least 40 net words per minute. A typing certificate may be issued by a temporary agency, Regional Occupational Program office, college or other accredited agency. Letters of verification from employers or internet typing certificates will NOT be accepted as a substitute for a typing certificate. SELECTION PROCESS


1. Application Filing: All applicants must apply on-line at www.cccounty.us/hr and submit the information as indicated on the job announcement by the final filing date.

2. Application Evaluation: Depending on the number of applications received, an Application Evaluation Board may be convened to evaluate and select the best-qualified candidates for invitation to the next phase of the examination.

3. Written Exercise: May include multiple-choice questions, writing proficiency test, and scenario based competency/behavioral questions. Test items may consist of the following assessment categories: Reading comprehension, basic mathematics, ability to under. Candidates must achieve a score of 70 percent, which may be an adjusted score in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations, in order to be placed on the eligible list. (Weighted 30%)

4. Oral Interview: Conducted by a Qualifications Appraisal Board who will evaluate candidates in job-related areas. Candidates must achieve a score of 70 percent, which may be an adjusted score in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations, in order to be placed on the eligible list. (Weighted 70%)

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices. As part of the application process, an applicant may be required to complete a Conviction History form. The Conviction History form should only be submitted when requested.
