• Under the direction of Directors and Program Managers in the FHNR division, provide technical and field assistance for the restoration and management of natural resources throughout the city, assuring that the agency is in compliance with wetland, stormwater management and other environmental regulations and restoration performance standards.
• Assist senior staff in conducting ecological and environmental monitoring in the city’s sub-tidal estuaries, streams, rivers, tidal and freshwater wetland and lakes.
• Manage anadromous fish restoration program on the Bronx River, including stocking and fish passage maintenance.
• Manage lake and pond monitoring, provide recommendations for lake management and coordinate with project partners and regulatory agencies regarding harmful algal blooms.
• Conduct water quality, fish and shellfish, benthic and other aquatic species monitoring, working independently or with community or academic partners and volunteers to assess conditions and guide restoration and protection.
• Assist in organizing field equipment and managing interns.
• Manage, enter, analyze and interpret field data using statistical software.
• Use ArcGIS software to map, visualize and spatially analyze data.
• Prepare maps, figures and final reports to submit to the public, funders, collaborators, internal staff and regulatory agencies.
• Support senior staff in evaluating the effects of restoration and adaptive management actions on natural resources.

1. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required for all other candidates.

1. Master’s degree in an environmental science, ecology, natural resource management or a related field.
2. Coursework in limnology and aquatic, wetland and riparian ecology and/or biogeochemistry.
3. Excellent writing, organizational and inter-personal skills, including ability to work in a team.
4. Field experience conducting hydrologic or ecological monitoring.
5. Knowledge of NYC flora and fauna, specifically fish and benthic invertebrates.
6. Experience conducting field mapping and monitoring.
7. Experience monitoring and preparing reports for regulatory compliance.
8. Strong GIS, spatial and statistical analysis and data management skills.
9. Experience reviewing and evaluating construction plans and specifications for the purpose of developing monitoring reports.
10. Valid New York State driver license.

Salary: $59,708 - $65,678 plus excellent benefits
