The DC Engineering Program Manager will be a highly motivated, self-starter who is technically savvy and able to provide excellent customer service, with an eye for identifying potential problem areas before they arise.

You will lead the design, construction, and commissioning activities associated with Apple’s data center infrastructure. This provides stable and cost effective hosting for Apple’s internal and external applications and services including “Mission Critical” services such as iTunes, iCloud, Apple Online Store, Apple’s Retail stores, Siri, Apple Maps, Apple Pay as well as critical Enterprise services such as SAP, Directory Services and credit card processing systems.

You will strive to set and maintain a culture of operational rigor throughout the project engineering and program management team, running multiple very large projects delivered to demanding schedules and cost targets, handling critical issues while maintaining timely and accurate communication to executive management. Demonstrating and supporting effective collaboration, communication and camaraderie across Global Data Center Services teams, Real Estate and Development teams, and Corporate teams such as Procurement, Legal and Finance is what drives you.

Description:
You will develop capital funding requests for all DC Engineering design, construction administration and commissioning projects. Partner with Procurement & Legal on the RFx processes engineering activity while ensuring these processes meet all of Apple's policies and practices. Proposal reviews from project consultants, sub-consultants and equipment suppliers is part of this partnership. Prepare comparative cost analyses and present action recommendations to the leadership team.

Work with Procurement and Legal, to review and comment on contract terms and prepare recommended amendments. Chip in to the negotiation of appropriate terms and conditions.

Support operations personnel, engineering leads and other project managers in representing Apple’s interest at all meetings with the Design Consultant, General Contractor, and other vendors or external partners.

Collaborate with the DC Operations team on the suitability of DC designs for operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Work with the RE&D construction team on design for constructability of all projects. Partner with DC Engineering resources and Corporate Procurement to continually develop the OFCI program. Collaborate with project managers and the Global Energy team, co-ordinate LEED certification of new and existing data center construction as required. Support energy modeling, sustainability assessment and total cost calculations. Develop and actively lead project plans including schedules, cost targets risk assessments and risk mitigations. Communicate capacity management team to align DC capacity supply with demand. Review billings from consultants, other design related vendors, raising and resolving queries as necessary and approving properly reviewed billing for payment.

Lead collaboration among; DC Engineering, DC Construction PM's, DC Architecture and Design Engineers, DC Construction Procurement, DC Construction Finance and DC Site Managers. Assist and build maintenance DC Engineering PMO processes. Adhere to the published PMO processes.

Collaborate across Infrastructure Services and support functions to develop and pursue continual improvement initiatives to drive down cost of ownership and reduce DC delivery lead time.

Prepare and present weekly updates on project design cost, schedule and risk. Support the consolidation of summary data across all projects to GDCS Leadership team. Project capital expenditure, project operational expense, project headcount planning, forecasting, management and control.

Staff performance planning and management including the development and management of performance plans that align with GDCS overall goals and objectives Project environment, health and safety matters, project sustainability matters, project security matters.

Travel, both domestically and internationally, may be required
Skills:  
Key Qualifications:
•10+ years of related experience in design or construction management experience associated with large and complex building designs. Data center design and construction experience is required
•You have successfully managed a wide range of data center or similar construction projects to tight deadlines and cost controls.
•Experience with “standard methodologies” in the area of DC design, construction, commissioning and sustainability.
•Solid ability to manage effectively conflicting business interests.
•Within a dynamic project environment, have the ability to make timely and effective decisions that are based on good judgment and business rationale.
•Excellent project management and project planning skills; strong organization skills. Ability to work under pressure and manage difficult situations.
•Demonstrated experience of managing technical individual contributors and managers.
•Demonstrated abilities to prepare and manage construction budgets in excess of $250 million with a solid understanding of and experience with procurement practices and contract negotiations.

Education:
Bachelors degree in engineering
