Job Summary
Diversity embraces the various experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives that make us unique. Inclusion is the practice of creating an environment for all to feel seen, valued, and heard. The Director of Diversity and Inclusion leads the efforts to ingrain diversity and inclusion into all USTA Texas operations and is essential in promoting and growing tennis in the increasingly diverse state of Texas today and in the future. The Director uses data-driven and research-based approaches to uphold the association’s strategic plan that recognizes diversity and inclusion as a core value. The Director collaborates across staff departments, committees, and the Board of Directors to incorporate diversity and inclusion into policies and procedures, staff and volunteer recruitment and retention, marketing and communication efforts, program development and delivery, USTA Texas events, and general operations. The Director serves as a liaison to all relevant USTA Texas and National committees.

Primary Relationships
Reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director
Collaborate with other staff members across departments
Collaborate with committee chairs and responsible officers
Collaborate with the National Diversity and Inclusion department
Collaborate with Section and local volunteers at the Community Tennis Association level
Diverse providers and/or organizations that serve diverse audiences
Provides subject matter expertise on relevant inclusion practices
Nurture existing and new internal and external strategic partnerships to engage diverse communities

Principle Accountabilities
Build an inclusive culture and manage various cross-departmental projects that develop teamwork and cohesion
Provide input into, and operationalize, the Diversity and Inclusion strategy across the Section, developing and driving Section-wide focused priorities
Lead a cross-functional Summit Team to create a modern and relevant attendee experience
Lead a cross-functional Grants Team that oversees the USTA Texas grants program
Utilize various research mechanisms and tools to capture data that strengthens the business value of diversity and inclusion and informs strategy
Oversee and manage USTA Texas’ Section Intern and Community Tennis Association Internship programs
Assist with the interview and hiring process for USTA Texas and volunteer selection process for committees/project teams
Oversee the review, evaluation, data management, and communication for USTA Texas Section volunteer selection
Lead the USTA Texas Volunteer Recruitment and Retention Program
Acquire, evaluate, and maintain volunteer and staff demographics to report to the USTA National office on a yearly basis
Collaborate with diverse stakeholders (universities, job sites, local resources) to advertise volunteer and staff positions
Manage the Texas Diversity, Hispanic Engagement, Diverse Events, and CTA Intern grant programs
Discover, advocate for, and implement new technology tools across USTA Texas to streamline processes and enhance efficiency
Provide support to the Texas Tennis and Education Foundation
Collaborate with USTA National on special projects, workgroups, staff retreats, and monthly conference calls
Provide diversity and inclusion education and training to staff, volunteers, Community Tennis Associations, and other stakeholders
Attend in-person and virtual conferences and share learnings with staff and volunteers
Consistently follow and study the diversity and inclusion field in other industries
Provide policy and procedures guidelines for the employee and volunteer handbooks
Manage budgets for Diversity and Inclusion
Perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent work experience
3 years of previous experience in Diversity and Inclusion, corporate strategy, business operations, HR, or change management
Experience organizing, managing and directing cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with non-profit, volunteer-based organizations
Background with operating and/or implementing products and programs

Ability to identify and advocate for new and innovative ways to integrate diversity and inclusion
Ability to find creative solutions and possibility in the face of obstacles
Experience in building Diversity and Inclusion initiatives from different levels of maturity
Skilled at working in a cross-functional environment with varying stakeholders and decision-makers
Ability to work and problem solve collaboratively
Ability to research and analyze data to build strategies for inclusion
Interest in the sports and entertainment industry in a non-profit setting
Ability to work with volunteers and follow non-profit systems of operations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to navigate sensitive subjects and foster relationships with staff and volunteers who have varying degrees of comfort with diversity and inclusion
Ability to learn additional technological skills, software as needed
Strong attention to detail
Task-oriented and problem solver
Self-starter with a “team-first” mentality
Willingness to grow and learn
Exceptional communication skills
Ability to travel and work weekends as needed (approximately 20% of time)
