Minimum Salary: $71,210.07 annually

Maximum Salary: $100,617.97 annually (maximum entry $74,815.08 per year)


Medical, dental, and employee assistance plans are provided for the employee and dependents. The District also provides life insurance plans for the employee, as well as an 8.25% contribution to the State Teacher’s Retirement plan. Additional types of insurance may be purchased with pre-tax dollars through an IRS 125 flexible benefit program.

Location: PC-Main Campus

Basic Function:

The successful applicant for the English position will be expected to develop and provide instruction in English. Curriculum development for English will be required for this position. This assignment may include teaching at other campus sites, day, evening, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning and using multiple teaching methodologies.

Other Duties Include: participation in student recruitment and articulation of programs; maintaining subject matter currency; developing and revising curriculum; using computer and multimedia technologies; assessing student learning and program level outcomes; collegial participation in departmental, college and discipline-specific professional activities.

Education and Experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s in English, Literature, Comparative Literature, or Composition;

OR – Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in Linguistics, TESL , Speech, education with a specialization in Reading, Creative Writing, or Journalism;

OR – Possession of a valid credential which authorizes full-time teaching of Language Arts at the California Community College level;

OR – The equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for these positions. AND – A demonstrated sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.

Note: Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an evaluation service.

• Ability to assess student learning outcomes;

• Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program;

• Knowledge of and commitment to the California Community College mission.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Ability to provide leadership within the program and on college initiatives to improve student learning.

• Ability and willingness to work effectively in college committee work and co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to support students and the college.

• Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

• An understanding of the advantages and challenges of developing and maintaining a quality English program in a rural community college.

• Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment.

• Ability to integrate reading and writing instruction and to use strategies designed for diverse learning styles.

• Ability to deliver instruction using strategies designed for generation 1.5 and ESL students.

• Experience with and/or willingness to teach accelerated classes.

• Experience with and/or willingness to teach online classes.

Salary Grade: Initial placement for all new faculty hires shall be Step 1, Class will range from 2-5 depending on earned degree.
