CHARACTERISTICS OF JOB:

Under direct supervision of RN Team Leader and medical provider, the Medical Assistant II performs expanded and more advanced level of MA duties to support the providers and specialists within the clinical scope of a Medical Assistant, and works to promote efficient use of the providerís time. The Medical Assistant II maintains a higher degree of technical expertise and independence than Medical Assistant I and demonstrates a high level of competency in all support roles including provides back-up coverage for MA III in training MA externs and staff in the MA I position.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Key responsibilities in addition to essential job duties defined for MA I (see MA I job description):

Assists with specialists in performing in-office procedures, scheduling surgical procedures and managing follow up care
Trains new Medical Assistants and Medical Assistant externs when the Medical Assistant III is not available.
Coordinates with clinic staff to ensure a positive patient flow, waiting room, and exam room experience
Gains expertise in preventive and chronic disease guidelines and may provide health coaching to assist patients in understanding the health benefit of screening and prevention
Serves as a resource to staff in the MA I position
Serves as a resource to the Medical Clinic Clerk in handling referrals and other clerical duties in the clinic
Recognizes and responds to acute emergency situations following the clinic procedures
Performs other duties as assigned by RN Team Leader and Clinic Nurse Manager
MARGINAL JOB DUTIES:

1. Acts as a patient advocate.
Skills:  
igh school diploma or GED equivalent.
Medical Assistant certificate from an accredited school required.
CPR Certification required.
A minimum of 3 years experience as a Medical Assistant working in a clinic setting.
Must be proficient in administering injections, treatments and the use of medical equipment appropriate for the practice of medicine and assist in office procedures.
Bilingual in English and Chinese ( Mandarin) required.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Knowledge of community resources and cultural needs.
Knowledge of computer system and electronic medical record.
Must have good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to demonstrate customer service skills in interactions with all patients, families and staff.
Ability to physically assist a patient, manages patient flow, and room patients.
Ability to perform efficiently and appropriately in busy clinic environment.
Ability to operate office equipment and assist in office procedures.
Ability to work independently as well as an integral part of the patient care team.
Type at least 35 w.p.m.
