Basic Function:

This position will be located at the Cerro Coso Community College East Kern Center, which serves the communities of Edwards Air Force Base and Tehachapi and, in partnership with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the two correctional facilities at California City and Tehachapi.

This is a temporary, 1 year, full-time position, as a community college Physical
Sciences Instructor. Teaching faculty are responsible for providing a full professional
week which includes but is not limited to 15 units of physical science courses, which
includes geology, earth sciences, and meteorology courses and MAY include
astronomy and physics courses depending on the background and preparation of the
successful applicant.

Other duties include holding office hours, maintaining subject matter currency, using computer and multimedia technology for increased student engagement, attending department and college meetings, and participating in institutional activities.

Examples of institutional activities are assisting with student outreach and recruitment; participating in articulation events with high schools and four-year schools as appropriate; developing and maintaining community connections; working with department and division colleagues to address student equity gaps; developing and revising curriculum; defining, assessing, and analyzing student learning
outcomes; collegially participating in departmental, college and discipline-specific professional activities.

Education and Experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

Earth Science:
Master’s in geology, geophysics, earth sciences, meteorology, oceanography or
Bachelor’s in geology
Master’s in geography, physics or geochemistry
Master’s in physics, astronomy or astrophysics
Bachelor’s in physics or astronomy
Master’s in engineering, mathematics, meteorology or geophysics

OR – Possession of a valid credential with authorizes full-time teaching of Psychology at the California Community College level;

OR – The equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for these positions. • Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit program;
• Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.

Salary Grade: Initial placement for all new faculty hires shall be Step 1, Class will range from 1-5 depending on earned degree.
