Minimum Salary: $66,315.63 annual

Maximum Salary: $87,011.86 annual (maximum entry $67,973.53)

Basic Function:

This position is contingent on funding.

Under the guidance and supervision of the Dean of Instruction, the Basic Skills Program Manager will be responsible for implementation of placement, services, innovations, and communications that improve student success in basic skills courses.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Planning, developing, and supervising education support activities to improve student success in basic skills courses.
• Maintaining budgets, organizing physical resources, and leading staff needed to improve placement processes, “extended classroom” academic support services, and other initiatives targeted to improving basic skills success rates.
• Creating reports for internal presentations and State requirements to demonstrate the effectiveness of basic skills courses and initiatives.
• Developing marketing information for basic skills initiatives.
• Coordinating and monitoring campus-based research related to basic skills initiatives.
• Working collaboratively with faculty, classified staff, other program managers, institutional researchers, and members of the College administration.
• Attending State meetings specific to the Basic Skills Initiative.
• Participating in local, College, and District meetings about basic skills.
• Organizing regular College meetings about basic skills initiatives.
• Collaborating with other College managers to improve transitioning of Adult School students to the College.
• Demonstrating a clear knowledge of the California Community College Chancellor's Office basic skills initiatives and reporting requirements.

Education and Experience:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

• Bachelor’s degree required

• Two years of experience related to area of assignment.

• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students and employees.

Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

• Student services available at the college.
• Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment.
• Principles and procedures of financial record-keeping and reporting.
• Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations related to the assigned special programs processes.
• Principles of public speaking.
• Record-keeping and report preparation methods.
• Principles of providing work direction and guidance to others.
• Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Ability to:

• Evaluate and implement project goals.
• Communicate information to individuals and groups.
• Interpret and apply the policies and procedures of the college and the project initiatives.
• Interact with and motivate others.
• Maintain records and prepare reports.
• Prepare and monitor budgets.
• Supervise and provide work direction and guidance to assigned staff.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Salary Grade: D
