THE POSITION

In this important role, you will assist Veterinarians and Registered Veterinary Technicians with a variety of procedures in order to diagnose, treat, monitor and care for the animals in our shelter. You may be asked to help assist in holding or restraining animals, preparing operating/treatment rooms for procedures, feeding and exercising the animals, or other similar duties.

In addition to your desire to help animals, the ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills, general knowledge of veterinary medical practices and procedures, and the ability to work well in a team environment. If this sounds like you, we strongly encourage you to apply!

TENTATIVE EXAM DATES

Tentative Oral Exam: July 20, 2017

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

License: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operatorís license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operatorís license will be accepted during the applicant process.

Experience: Either: One (1) year of experience as a Veterinary Technician (unlicensed) in a veterinary practice, clinic, or hospital; or one (1) year of experience as an Animal Center Technician in Contra Costa County or the equivalent in another agency, which included performing duties to handle, move and treat sick and injured animals.

Substitution: Completion of a Veterinary Assistant/Technician training program may be substituted for six (6) months of the required experience.

SELECTION PROCESS


1. Application Filing: All applicants must apply on-line at www.cccounty.us/hr and submit the information as indicated on the job announcement by the final filing date.

2. Application Evaluation: Depending on the number of applications received, an Application Evaluation Board may be convened to evaluate and select the best-qualified candidates for invitation to the next phase of the examination.

3. Oral Interview: Conducted by a Qualifications Appraisal Board who will evaluate candidates in job-related areas. Candidates must achieve a score of 70 percent, which may be an adjusted score in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations, in order to be placed on the eligible list. (Weighted 100%)

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices. As part of the application process, an applicant may be required to complete a Conviction History form. The Conviction History form should only be submitted when requested.
