The Women’s Recovery Specialist (WRS) works from a strengths perspective providing and coordinating a full array of engagement/recovery case management services to women who accessed Women and children’s Specialized Residential Treatment Services. The primary goal of the Women’s Recovery Specialist is to assist women in following through in the community with the discharge plan that was developed while they were in the Women and Children’s Residential Treatment Program or to assist them in developing a recovery plan in the community if they discharged from treatment early. WRS help women transition through the continuum of substance abuse and behavioral treatment of care following their stay in residential treatment, assist the women in increasing her recovery based support systems in the community where she will be living, gain access to needed resource services, and other community supports that will help her sustain and maintain her recovery in that community. The WRS provides holistic services that are gender-responsive to maximize her likelihood of success, decrease ineffective uses of higher levels of treatment services, ensures successful client treatment outcomes and increases the rate of engagement in recommended services. The WRS works with the women to ensure the client receives quality treatment services in an appropriate treatment setting; and supports her in increasing her recovery capital through skills training and recovery coaching. This position will represent ABH® and its services in a positive and professional manner and adhere to ABH®’s best practices, guidelines, policies and procedures as established, promoting ABH® as a leader in behavioral healthcare in all interactions and work.


 The Women’s Recovery Specialist will work closely with designated Women and Children’s Residential Programs to complete intakes and familiarize themselves with the woman’s discharge plans and needs in the community for successful integration into the community;
 Assist the woman in developing and promoting healthy connections to children, family, significant others and her community;
 Tracks and coordinates substance abuse, trauma, domestic violence, and mental health issues through comprehensive, integrated, culturally relevant services;
 Make engagement attempts with client in various community settings, via face to face attempts, telephone calls or letters to the client’s home, last known address, shelters, treatment providers, DCF Offices, or soup kitchens;
 Collaboration and coordination with DCF personnel, treatment providers, courts, other case managers, and community based organizations;
 Referrals and contacts with culturally relevant organizations and individuals such as the following, as needed to, establish and maintain adequate community supports; vocational providers, employers, Connecticut Employment Incentive Program (CEIP) grantees; housing agencies. Landlords, health care providers, probation/parole officers, crisis intervention services, faith community, self-help communities, and parenting supports;
 Extensive travel on a daily basis;
 Assist with service planning of non-clinical needs such as housing, vocational/educational training, employment, childcare referrals, etc;
 Assistance with arranging transportation to treatment appointments, and other community supports;
 Providing transportation to client and possibly her child/ren using own vehicle;
 Face to face supportive counseling;
 Telephone supportive counseling;
 Maintains confidentiality of all client protected health information and adheres to all HIPAA related policies and procedures;
 Demonstrates ethical behavior and cultural sensitivity in all activities involving individuals of diverse backgrounds;
 Performs other tasks/responsibilities as required to support the business operations.

 Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field preferred. 2+ years demonstrated work experience in substance abuse and/or co-occurring disorders and/or women’s issues.
 Self-identified woman in recovery (substance use or co-occurring disorder) who has maintained a minimum of 2 years of sobriety; or a woman who has lived experience with family members in recovery (substance use or co-occurring disorder);
 Willingness to use lived experience to help others.


 Demonstrated knowledge of engagement services, substance abuse, mental health services, parenting, women’s issues, and community resources;
 Knowledge of female needs, challenges and strengths;
 Ability to use reflective listening skills, foster emotional safety, develop trust with clients;
 Experience working with women in recovery;
 Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation and be willing to transport clients in personal vehicle;
 Proof of car insurance verifying minimum insurance coverage of $100,000/$300,000/$100,000;
 Extensive travel;
 Good time management and organizational skills;
 Ability to work independently;
 Strong attention to detail; ability to work on multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
 Excellent PC skills with demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Package (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Outlook); internet;
 Strong written and verbal communication skills required;
 Attends annual Conflict of Interest training.
