75%, 12 Month, Classified Position
Salary Range 30: $2,482.50 - $3,151.50/Month (Starting Salary: $2,482.50 - $2,734.50/Month)
Current Work Schedule: Monday: 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. Tuesday – Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Thursday – Friday: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Some nights and weekends may be required)
The Radio Station Technician performs a wide range of support functions for the radio broadcasting instructional program at Ohlone College which includes 89.3 KOHL, Ohlone’s full-time FM broadcast facility. Desirable candidates must possess knowledge of professionally accepted radio station operating disciplines in the areas of programming, production, public affairs and promotion. An understanding of current FCC rules and regulations is essential. Applicants must demonstrate familiarity with comprehensive software-based operating platforms such as RCS Master Control. Duties include routine facility maintenance, operation of analog and digital studio and remote broadcast equipment and broadcast scheduling, reconciliation and accounting. The Radio station Technician coordinates activities with College faculty, staff, students and the public.

POSITION
Under general supervision, to perform a variety of duties involved in providing technical support services in the radio broadcast facility to instructors and students; and to maintain laboratory materials, supplies, and equipment.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Exercises functional and technical supervision over student assistants.
EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Provide instructional assistance and support to students and staff in radio courses; provide technical assistance with lab/broadcast projects and orientation to facility requirements and faculty requests.
2. Maintain proper learning environment in the broadcast and production facilities; provide assistance to individual or small groups of students; supervise students in all phases of production situations.
3. Operate and maintain the comprehensive radio station operations software platform, including scheduling, reconciliation and accounting; provide support and maintenance to software and hardware of computerized systems.
4. Respond to inquiries and request of information from staff members, students and the community regarding the radio broadcast facility and related programs; provide orientations of the facility.
5. Maintain, clean, service, and test radio station equipment, instruments, tools, and training aides.
6. Maintain cleanliness of the laboratory; clean equipment, floors, table tops, desks, and furniture; return unused materials to storage and the stockroom.
7. Perform a variety of clerical duties; maintain and update files and records; prepare necessary reports; duplicate and distribute materials.
8. Assist in the operation of the F.C.C. licensed FM broadcast family.
9. Oversee the set up of the radio equipment for special production or remote broadcast applications.
10. Coordinate donor solicitation activities between District and off-campus firms.
11. Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of student laboratory assistants; participate in staff selection; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES Maintain laboratory informational displays including bulletin boards, posters, notices, and related items. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge Operational characteristics of apparatus, equipment and materials used in radio studios. Operational characteristics and maintenance requirements of computer software & hardware use for broadcast production, traffic, billing, accounting, and programming. Pertinent Federal, State, District, and local laws, regulations, and policies regarding assigned area including F.C.C. regulations. Communications and media technologies, including systems and procedures related to radio broadcasting.
Knowledge cont’d: Principles and practices of production journalism. Principles, methods, and techniques involved in radio production, directing, and programming. Public relations principles and practices. Practices and procedures of record keeping. Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment. Principles and practices of tutoring. Principles of supervision and training.
Abilities: Understand, apply, and implement administrative policies, practices, and procedures; represent management in dealing with a variety of administrative policies, practices and procedures on a variety of administrative matters with other departments, employees, or outside public and private agencies; train, evaluate and supervise the work of staff; plan, coordinate and initiate action necessary to implement decisions and/or recommendations; work independently in identifying the need for and developing proposed changes to operating practices, programs, and policies; speak and write effectively; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety and level of departmental staff.
Skills: Operate, repair, and maintain radio studio and transmission equipment. Operate remote broadcast equipment. Demonstrate correct laboratory methods, practices and technologies. Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment. Type and word process at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION GUIDELINES
Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: : An Associate of Arts degree or equivalent with major course work commercial broadcasting or a related field.
Experience: Two years of experience in radio air work and production. Broadcast traffic experience is desirable.
License or Certificate: (Deregulated by F.C.C.)
