Dean of Economics and Business Administration
Saint Mary’s College of California invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the School of Economics and Business Administration. Founded in 1863, Saint Mary’s is a residential campus nestled 20 miles east of San Francisco in the picturesque Moraga Valley. Based in the Catholic, Lasallian, and Liberal Arts traditions, Saint Mary’s, a comprehensive college, currently enrolls 3,400 students from diverse backgrounds in undergraduate and graduate programs. The De La Salle Christian Brothers, a renowned teaching order of the Roman Catholic Church, founded Saint Mary’s and continue to guide the spiritual and academic character of the College. Saint Mary’s College is a welcoming community dedicated to treating all with dignity and respect in ways that acknowledge and validate their diverse backgrounds and ideas.
The School of Economics and Business Administration offers distinguished undergraduate degree programs, such as the Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Business Administration, and a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Economics, as well as graduate degree programs that are rooted in intellectual inquiry and the application of theory-based concepts. Graduate Business was founded in 1975 with the inauguration of the Executive MBA Program. In 1984, the Professional MBA Program was introduced, and in 2004 Gradate Business launched the M.S. in Financial Analysis and Investment Management (MS-FAIM) Program.
THE POSITION:
Reporting to the Provost, the Dean is responsible for the overall academic excellence of the School, recruitment and development of outstanding faculty and staff, and improvement of educational effectiveness. The Dean is expected to provide strategic direction for the College, foster a rich intellectual community, support faculty and student research, effectively manage the administrative affairs of the School, represent the School and the College to the public, and assist in obtaining external resources for the School and the College. The Dean supervises department chairs, program directors, and associate deans in both the undergraduate and graduate divisions.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
In addition to an understanding of and commitment to the mission of the College, the successful candidate will possess a terminal degree in an appropriate field, a record of teaching excellence, evidence of high-quality scholarship, and solid administrative leadership. Experience in fundraising and relevant business accomplishment is also valued.
Compensation is commensurate with rank and qualifications.
